Scintilla Is Coming to Sam’s Club in 2027!

Walmart announced on August 20 that it plans to bring Scintilla, its first-party commerce intelligence platform, to Sam’s Club in 2027. Sam’s Club suppliers received the notice directly from Sam’s Club Merchandise Execution and Walmart Data Ventures the following day.

Scintilla is the platform Walmart suppliers already know, launched as Luminate in 2021 and renamed Scintilla in 2025. Extending it to Sam’s Club puts member insights, omnichannel performance, and business outcomes into a single view that merchants and suppliers share, rather than each side working from its own reporting.

Sam’s Club Chief Merchant Myron Frazier framed the goal as helping merchants and suppliers "listen better and act faster" on what members want. On Walmart’s Q2 earnings call the same week, leadership described the Sam’s Club expansion as one of the most requested items from its supplier base.

For suppliers currently working in MADRID, nothing changes today. Sam’s Club has confirmed MADRID will remain available until Scintilla launches, with more transition detail promised over the coming months.

What this means for suppliers:

  • No action is required right now. MADRID stays live through the transition, and Sam’s Club has committed to sharing preparation guidance before the switch.

  • Teams already using Scintilla on the Walmart side have a head start. If your organization runs both accounts, the analysts who know Scintilla’s modules and metric definitions should be looped into Sam’s Club planning early.

  • Export and archive your MADRID history before the cutover. Metric definitions and hierarchies rarely carry over cleanly between platforms having your own baselines documented protects your ability to compare year-over-year performance after launch.

  • A shared view cuts both ways. When your merchant is looking at the same availability, assortment, and performance numbers you are, item setup accuracy and in-stock discipline become far more visible in line reviews.

  • Access levels and cost for Sam’s Club have not been announced. Worth flagging in your 2027 budget conversations now rather than in Q1.

The 2027 timeline is generous, but the suppliers who benefit most from platform transitions are usually the ones who treat the lead time as preparation window rather than a reason to wait.

Not sure how the MADRID-to-Scintilla transition affects your Sam’s Club business?
